(Ep. 10) H&M Epic Fail Advertisement

Hello Beautiful People,

So while scrolling down Instagram earlier today, I stumbled upon an advertisement that I found quite appalling. In it was this adorable child (who happened to be black) clad in a green hoodie. The words on the front of this green hoodie read “Coolest Monkey In The Jungle”.

Many people have their own opinions in regards to the ad, which is fine. We are all entitled to think on our own and have opinions. I totally get that! However, I have to agree to disagree on this one with individuals that refuse to acknowledge that the ad was, well……. Racist!

I remember the very first time I realized how hateful the internet can be. I was looking on some magazine website back in the year of 2006. Apparently their subscribers (men) had voted Beyonce as the #1 most beautiful woman or something along those lines. However, the thing that I remember most about that was looking at the comments. Someone had referred to her as a monkey. I was disgusted, but more so shocked. This was the first time I had witnessed internet trolling and definitely the first time I had even heard of anyone comparing Beyonce to a monkey.

The point I’m trying to make is that unfortunately for some reason black people have been referred to as monkeys for a very, very long time. More recently, most of you may recall a black actress by the name of Leslie Jones. She was one of the leading ladies in the Ghostbusters movie which was released in 2016. Despite putting on a hilarious performance, she found herself being attacked by racist internet trolls who were referring to her as a monkey among other degrading terms. In result, she ended up taking a break from social media. Oh and let’s not forget about how a House Representative sent an email with a photo of a monkey in reference to Michelle Obama when Barack was in office. These are only a few examples. I could go on for days…

I, unfortunately have heard people refer to blacks as monkeys when they thought I couldn’t hear them…. Or maybe they wanted me to hear… Either way, it’s hurtful, mean, and very much so racist.

I also want to know why in the hell did this child’s parents allow, accept, and approve of such a tacky and distasteful stunt.

In this podcast, I did use the term “people like you”. Before anyone gets all upset, I want to address that when I said that, I was referring to ignorant individuals that prefer to sweep issues like this under the rug rather than have an open dialogue. Glad that’s clarified (wipes brow)!  Anyhow, I hope you enjoy and maybe even learn something from this episode.

Peace and much love,

(Ep. 9) Happy New Year!

Hello Beautiful People!

First and foremost, I want to wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year! Things are starting to wind down being that the most stressful time of the year (for the majority of people) is done and over with. I personally don’t get too stressed around the holiday season simply for two reasons. Number 1: I’m usually on vacation from work. Number 2: I only buy gifts for a select group of individuals. However, I know everyone’s situation is different as well as the fact that we all handle stress in our own way.

In this podcast episode I give a little bit of a recap of what 2017 meant to me. Surprisingly, I was fortunate enough to be able to experience a lot of things for the very first time last year (launching this website being one)! Generally speaking, it was a pretty decent year over all.

As for the year of 2018, I really just want to build on what I’ve already started in addition to things I have been planning to do for a substantial period of time. I definitely plan on traveling more! In fact, I’m going to Cali in a few months!!!

I’m so excited and full of optimism for what the future lies ahead! Changes and growth will be in full effect! I hope you guys are just as excited as I am. If not, what does excite you? Once you establish that, make a way for you to be able to do it. After all, life is what you make it!

I hope you all enjoy this episode!

Peace and Much Love,

(Ep. 8) The Best Way To Get It Done Is To Do It Yourself!

Hello Beautiful People!

I hope you all are spending time with the ones you love during this holiday season. Life for me has been busy as usual. But at the end of the day, I love it and I can’t complain!

This podcast episode touches on doing things on your own. This year I have been experiencing a few setbacks in regards to projects I want to take on simply because I was trying to get others to hop on the band wagon rather than just do it myself.

After a few failed attempts with these projects, I had an epiphany! The reason why my project hasn’t taken off is because of my own fear based mentality. Basically, I wanted to have others be apart of the project because I was a bit scared to do it as a solo. However, I still wanted majority of the control over it, being that it was originally my idea. Yeah, so much for that…

So, I have decided to take a new approach, do a bit more research, and start over! I’m totally excited, especially being that I’ll have total control over every aspect of what I am trying to do. Like the saying goes, “The best way to get it done is to do it yourself”.

I look forward to sharing my forthcoming projects with you all!!!

Peace and Much Love,

(Ep. 7) Hurricane Irma, Threatening Neighbor, and More

Hello beautiful people!

Anyhow, this episode of my podcast will talk about Hurricane Irma, me getting into an altercation with my upstairs neighbor, and a few other things that have been going on in my life (including turning 32)!

For those of you that are still going through it due to Hurricane Irma, keep your heads up. You are definitely not alone. Things will get better in time, you just have to be patient and reminds yourselves of that.

Hope you enjoy this episode!

Peace and Much Love,

(Ep. 6) Comparison

It’s been a few weeks but here is another episode for your entertainment! It was actually recorded a weeks ago, however due to unforeseen circumstances my release date was delayed.

This episode touches on comparison (social media related especially). In today’s day and age, we see so many unrealistic portrayals of life through the lenses of social media. These illusions have become so much embedded in our culture and society that we often forget that they are just that, illusions! Often times, I have found myself looking at other people’s social media accounts and comparing my lives to theirs. There have also even been times where friends will call me and vent about their personal lives only to go onto social media hours later to post pictures and videos that don’t exactly correlate to what they had just discussed with me….

In a nutshell, social media is a place where people have the ability to pick and choose what they want to display in regards to their life. We never really know what goes on behind closed doors. Therefore, all that glitters is not gold! What is meant for you is yours! Don’t waste your time competing with others. It’s unhealthy and you will never truly be fulfilled by doing so.

Peace and Much Love,

(Ep. 5) Friendship: Part 2 Being Platonic

Hi everyone!!!

I hope you are all enjoying your summer! I’ve been taking care of a lot of things lately, which has kept me from releasing another podcast episode. However, I’m back at it and I have a new one for you today!!! And I have a special guest with me, as promised in the last episode. This episode covers friendships from both a man’s and woman’s point of view. We also discuss whether or not it is possible for men and women to have platonic relationships in addition to a few other things.

Thanks for the support.

Peace and Much Love,

(Ep. 4) The Time I Got Harassed By An Ex On FB, Friendship, and Random Stuff In Between

Hello all!

I hope you all are having a fantastic week. So much is going on with Memorial Weekend festivities, school letting out, graduations, and all that jazz. Life has definitely been busy these days… AND I LOVE IT!!! Therefore, all of the business has kept me from releasing a new podcast episode. But have no fear, I have it here just for you all now!!!!

This episode talks about the awkwardness of having an ex boyfriend of mine shamelessly harass me on Facebook -_-. In addition to that randomness, I discuss the meaning of friendship and my experiences with people I do or have considered to be my friends.

Thanks for all of the support and I hope you enjoy!

This photo was taken a few weeks ago during a much needed girls night out! The lovely lady on my left has been my friend ever since kindergarten (literally)! I have been friends with the lovely lady on my right for the past 12 years now! They have known each other since either middle or high school (My memory isn’t quite what it used to be smh). LOVE YOU TWO!!!!!
